Egg Drop Soup

This soup is really simple and tasty. =)

Ingredients

3 cups chicken broth
3/4 teaspoon soy sauce
3/4 teaspoon sesame oil
1 tablespoon cornstarch
2 tablespoons water
3 eggs, beaten
1/4 teaspoon salt
1-1/2 teaspoons pepper

Perpetration:
In a medium saucepan, combine the chicken broth, soy sauce and sesame oil. Bring to a boil. Stir together the cornstarch and water to dissolve cornstarch; pour into the boiling broth. Gently stir soup while you pour in eggs. Season with salt and pepper.

She's still our easiest baby so far. She's sitting, saying Mama and Dada, and loves grabbing food off my plate. =) She's always smiling, giggling, and cooing. She loves sitting in the floor and playing with Abraham. He always shares all his toys with her. =) Lydia is always trying to share her snacks, but doesn't want to give up her dolls. I really love being able to spend my days at home with them. =)

My baby boy is three years old today. =) Where does the time go? I can't imagine life without him! It's such a joy to be his momma. He keeps me on my toes and never fails to bring a smile to my face. He's all boy and super sweet at the same time. I love watching him grow, but I sure wish I had a pause button. =) Happy Birthday Abe!!

This seat is wonderful. Rebekah loves to nap or just sit and look around. Her head is slightly elevated, so she can see everything that's going on. It is much safer around my other two children than say a bouncy seat. It also sits much higher off the floor, so it's not as hard on my back. It sits about the height of our bed. It rocks front to back, and Abe and Lydia love to rock her. It's also really affordable at about $40.00 shipped at amazon. There are other pattern choices, but since we are looking forward to adding to our family we chose the yellow. =)

My HBA2C with Rebekah

I started having really good contractions around 9:00 on May 23. We called our midwife Mary and she and her apprentice Amy came right over. The baby was transverse, so they turned her into position. I had good consistent contractions for a few hours, but then every thing just came to a stop. I continued having good hard contractions for over a week. I went for my next prenatal on the 25th and found out that Rebekah had turned breech. Her position was very clear since they could actually feel her toes. We decided to go ahead and turn her again, because we knew a foot would drop if I started dilating quickly. Rebekah turned back transverse within a few hours. Mary left the decision of turning her again up to us after explaining the pros and cons. I reached out to some very knowledgeable Mama's and got some good advice. Chris and I decided it would be best to wait until labor started and try turning her one last time. I got less and less optimistic about a VBAC as days passed. On the 30th our midwife decided we should go in for an ultrasound and see how big the baby was measuring (weight and head measurements). She wanted to make sure there wasn't a problem that was keeping the baby from staying or turning head down. She called and scheduled the ultrasound for the 1st at 10:30. I really started to worry at that point, but I knew it was out of my hands. The 31st passed with only a few mild contractions. We were excited that we were going to be able to see the baby one more time before she was born. She was still transverse when we went to bed around 11:30. I woke to really strong contractions around 2:00. I knew that these were different and Chris called Mary once again. By 2:15 I was having contractions around every 4 minutes. The midwife checked the baby's position first thing. We got a wonderful surprise, she was in position!! I was thrilled to say the least. God's timing is so much better than ours. =) She hadn't engaged at all this point and I was only at 1 1/2. It was around 3:15 at this point. I started laboring on the birth ball to try to get the baby to engage, and to keep her in position. I had a glass of water and a snack at that point. I got pretty uncomfortable being on the ball after an hour or so, and I started walking up and down the hall. That didn't stay comfortable long so I moved to a blow up mattress that was set up just for my labor. It was the exact height I needed to lean on, it was the most comfortable position of my entire labor. Poor Chris got the job of pressing on my back through the whole labor. I know this position was the most uncomfortable for him, but he never complained once. =) All I could really focus on at this point was the smell of an orange that Amy moved right in front of me. Around 8:00 I was really tired and after being checked for progression I was at a 7. I decided to just lay in bed for a few minutes because everything was hurting so bad. I ended up sleeping between contractions for about an hour. I was getting around 60-90 second naps, but they felt like 20 minutes. They checked me again and I was still only at a 7. The midwifes suggested I try a hot shower. At this point poor Chris got soaked. I didn't stay in the shower long, I was really uncomfortable and hot. I could really feel a lot of pressure at this point. Amy then suggested I try the birthing stool. I wasn't thrilled with the thought of having to sit there. She said I'd only have to sit through a few contractions and if it didn't work I could try something else. I tried a few contraction and didn't like the stool at all. Amy just kept telling that it was good to feel the pressure. I finally convinced her that I had to get up and go to the restroom. Once I made it there my water broke, and I felt ever more pressure. They quickly moved me back to the birthing stool. At this point I felt my body telling me to push. Amy checked me again and I wasn't quite ready, but she told me I could push if I felt the urge. I started pushing at 9:45. As I was pushing Amy told me to reach down and feel the baby's head. It was only then I was totally convinced I was going to have a HBAC. After a few more pushes Rebekah was born at 10:15 am. I felt such joy as she was placed in my arms. It was wonderful being the first person to see and touch my baby. Her pinking up took a bit longer than they would like so Amy gave her a breath while she was still in my arms. It only took 5 minutes for the placenta and Chris was able to cut the cord and hold his new sweet baby girl. It really was a wonderful experience. Everyone was crying and smiling. =)

2 months old already

It's hard to believe Rebekah is already 2 months old! She is such a wonderful addition to our family. She is the easiest of our babies so far. She's slept through the night from birth and most days naps when Abe and Lydia do. That makes it much easier on Mama. =) She loves bath time, listening to the vacuum, and her swing. She doesn't like being in a sling or laying on her back. She's crazy about Abraham. She just smiles and talks to him whenever he's in her sight. He and Lydia love to shower her in kisses. So far there hasn't been any jealously issues, which was one of my main concerns. Life is busy and wonderful!

A little girl! We just couldn't wait to find out. Chris stayed with Abraham and Lydia while I had the ultrasound done. The tech was really sweet and printed the gender picture and put it in an envelope so we could find out together. =)

20 weeks

We're 20 weeks into this pregnancy already. I'm feeling great. I've had very little sickness. I was sick all the way through my last two pregnancies so it's a nice change. At our last checkup the baby was head down. I know it's early but I'm hoping this one decides to stay that way. We're praying that we will be able to have a VBAC this time around. We have an ultrasound scheduled for February 1st. We haven't decided if we're going to find out what sex the baby is. It would be fun to let it be a surprise, but I just don't know if we can wait. =)

Snow day

We got 6 inches of snow Sunday afternoon-Monday morning. We were without power for about 9 hours. Abraham had so much fun playing in the dark. He toted a flashlight around until bedtime. He also got his first fat lip. =( The poor little guy tripped on his wagon trying to get his cup in the dark. Lydia wasn't sure what was going on, but had fun playing with her brother.

We had fun in the snow early Monday. Abraham cried when we came inside. I think he'd have played in it all day.

I said goodbye to my 20's.

Our hearts ache at the loss of my Mother-in-Law.

The birth of our beautiful Lydia brought us joy.
As well as sadness that her Granny just missed getting to meet her.

We celebrated 14 years together (since dating).

We were excited to learn that we are expecting our 3rd little blessing.

We celebrated our 5 year wedding anniversary.

We found it hard to believe Abraham turned two.

Our prayers were answered when we found out my dad's surgery was a total success.

We had good times and some very hard times this past year. Nevertheless, we were very blessed. I'm so glad that God is the one in control of our lives. I know if we were depending on the world to make our decisions for us we would be miserable, but we rest easy and don't worry about the year to come because we know who is in control and where our final home will be.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

Update on my dad.

Thank You for your prayers. My dad's surgery went better than expected. He is doing well. He still has his epidural in, so he's felling no pain. He will get to keep it in until Friday or Saturday. They're going to get him up and have him walk the hall today and are hoping he gets to have some liquids. They are almost sure that the cancer was confined to the kidney which is wonderful news. He will need to stay at the hospital for at least 6-7 more days. God is Good!

Life around here has been pretty busy lately. Lydia is sitting, rolling, and trying to crawl. Abraham is loving playing with his sister, but is also very jealous of her now that she's mobile. He has finally learned what the word no means. Whenever Lydia gets something of his he tells her NO! It's actually funny because he can't pretend he doesn't know what we're saying when he's in trouble (which seems to be often these days). He still loves sharing his hugs and kisses with only her. I love watching how close they are becoming already. They are growing so fast. It's hard to believe Abe will be two this month. It seems like he was born yesterday! I'm so blessed that I get to stay home with them everyday! I hope to get time to upload some pictures soon.

My new "free" sling

The company that makes my favorite nursing covers from has recently started selling slings. I was super excited when I received my "free" sling offer from them. This is how I've been able to afford my covers as well. They charge a pretty hefty shipping fee ($12), but I'm sure this is how they are able to make a profit and still have these offers. I'm very happy with the products I've received and they've been excellent values. This sling is one piece and is very comfortable. Lydia's legs aren't quite long enough for the hip carry, but she seems very comfortable in the front carry position.

Pear Pecan Muffins

Ingredients

3 cups wheat flour
2 cups sugar
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 eggs
1 cup applesauce (I used pear sauce)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
4 cups chopped peeled ripe pears (5 good sized pears)
1 cup chopped pecans (I ran mine through the blender)

Directions

In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking soda, cinnamon and salt. In another bowl, combine the eggs, applesauce and vanilla; stir into dry ingredients until moistened. Fold in the pears and pecans.
Fill paper-lined muffin cups two-thirds full. Bake at 350° for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool for 5 minutes before removing from pans to wire racks. Yield: 3 dozen muffins

Lots of Pears

We spent Labor Day weekend in Missouri visiting my parents. We had a great time. Abraham kept Grandma busy while Lydia had nothing but smiles and giggles for Grandpa.

We were blessed by my Aunt who let us pick pears from a tree in her yard. We were able to get about fifty pounds of organic pears. She has another tree that wasn't quite ready, she said we are more than welcome to come and take all we want when they are. =) I made pear sauce with most of the ones that ripened on the way home and I'm planning on baking some muffins tomorrow. Abraham helped himself to four of them this morning while I was making bread. He loves fruit.

Reading through the Bible in 90 days

I've gotten a bit behind on my Bible reading for the year. I know I really should be reading through much more than once a year, so I've taken on the challenge of reading it through in 90 days. I'm currently on day three. I've found it's quite easy for me to fit in my reading while nursing Lydia in the morning. Abraham generally sleeps in an hour or two later than us. I guess the key for me is having a schedule to follow. I've really been enjoying my time with the Lord, it's a wonderful way to start my day. In the past I've always tried reading at night, and I was just so exhausted that I didn't retain what I was reading. This schedule also allows reading three books at a time, something I've never really tried.

Chris bought me a new pair of shoes a few weeks ago and I love them! I know they look strange and uncomfortable, but they really are comfy. I've so been enjoying wearing them when we go on our daily walk. I have an old knee injury that bothers me when wearing shoes. It just buckles and gives out on me. Since I've started wearing the Five Fingers I haven't had any problems with it. They have really been a blessing.

Where has modesty gone?

I recently noticed my wardrobe needed a major overhaul. I have lost my pregnancy weight plus some and almost all of my tops are lacking modesty. I'd been wearing a tank top under most of them for sometime and it really wasn't helping (or should I say hiding) anything. I set out to find a few new tops and much to my surprise, couldn't find any! What is the deal with the button-ups? The buttons stop halfway up the shirt. The v-necks plunge to your toes and everything is now toddler length. I found one button up that would have been suitable, but when I tried it on the buttons gaped open and you could see straight through. I can't even find any at the resale shop. It's driving me batty. It's hard enough trying to find a modest skirt, I'd never have believed that finding a top would be this hard. I don't even want to think about how hard it will be to find modest clothing for my daughter in the future. I guess it's time to learn to sew.

Mommy's little helper

Abraham will be nineteen months old in less than week. He is not a baby anymore and it's really hard for me to accept. He's really keeping me on my toes these days. You can see him thinking about what he's going to get into next. He is constantly climbing on toy boxes, jumping on the furniture, and unplugging cords. He knows he's going to get in trouble and starts shaking his head no as he begins doing them, and then talks back while he's getting in trouble. He's so cute that it's sometimes hard not to smile. He is absolutely crazy about his sister. He won't get up in the morning without her. He yells "Sissy" until he's able to wake her. He hugs her when she cries, swings her in her swing, holds her (with help), and sings to her all day. She's also the only one worthy of getting any of his kisses. I love seeing the bond they already share. He loves helping me with the daily chores. He must close the dryer door when the laundry is rotated. He also loves to fold (and unfold) the laundry, hang his and Lydia's clothes, and dust. His absolute favorite is vacuuming. I can hardly get it done because he is crying and trying to take the vacuum from me. =) The highlight of his day however, is when his Daddy comes through the door. He is 100% Daddy's boy.

Lydia is 3 months old now. She's growing so fast. I love to watch her smile and hear her sweet cooing. She loves to be rocked and hear us sing. She always wakes up in a good mood and her eyes dance when she's happy. She sucks on her hands constantly (even with a full belly). She laughs when her brother cries and when we play Pat-a-Cake.

I wake up every day and thank God for blessing me with a wonderful husband and the sweetest babies in the world. I wouldn't trade them for anything!

New morning-after pill spurs abortion debate

A French drug company is seeking to offer American women something their European counterparts already have: a pill that works long after "the morning after."

The drug, dubbed ella, would be sold as a contraceptive - one that could prevent pregnancy for as many as five days after unprotected sex. But the new drug is a close chemical relative of the abortion pill RU-486, raising the possibility that it could also induce abortion by making the womb inhospitable for an embryo.

The controversy sparked by that ambiguity promises to overshadow the work of a federalpanel that will convene this week to consider endorsing the drug. The last time the Food and Drug Administration vetted an emergency contraceptive - Plan B, the so-called morning-after pill - the decision was mired in debate over such fundamental questions as when life begins and the distinction between preventing and terminating a pregnancy.

Ella is raising many of those same politically charged questions - but more sharply, testing the Obama administration's pledge to keep ideology from influencing scientific decisions.

Plan B, which works for up to 72 hours after sex, was eventually approved for sale without a prescription, although a doctor's order is required for girls younger than 17. The new drug promises to extend that period to at least 120 hours. Approved in Europe last year, ella is available as an emergency contraceptive in at least 22 countries.

Ella is being welcomed by many U.S. advocates for family planning and reproductive rights as a much-needed additional form of emergency contraception. Opponents of the drug, however, argue that the French company and the FDA would be misleading the public by labeling ella as an emergency contraceptive. Its chemical similarity to RU-486 makes it more like the controversial abortion pill, which can terminate a pregnancy at up to nine weeks, they say.

RU-486 has soared in popularity since approval 10 years ago in the United States, raising the possibility that ella (ulipristal acetate) might become ubiquitous in American women's medicine cabinets.

"With ulipristal, women will be enticed to buy a poorly tested abortion drug, unaware of its medical risks, under the guise that it's a morning-after pill," said Wendy Wright of Concerned Women for America, which led the battle against Plan B.

Plan B prevents a pregnancy by administering high doses of a hormone that mimics progesterone. It works primarily by inhibiting the ovaries from producing eggs. Critics argue it can also prevent a fertilized egg from implanting in the womb, which some consider equivalent to an abortion.

Ella works as a contraceptive by blocking progesterone's activity, which delays the ovaries from producing an egg. RU-486, too, blocks the action of progesterone, which is also needed to prepare the womb to accept a fertilized egg and to nurture a developing embryo. That's how RU-486 can prevent a fertilized egg from implanting and dislodge growing embryos. Ella's chemical similarity raises the possibility that it might do the same thing, perhaps if taken at elevated doses. But no one knows for sure because the drug has never been tested that way.

Opponents of the drug are convinced it will. "It kills embryos, just like the abortion pill," said Donna Harrison, president of the American Association of Pro-Life Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

Critics fear that women who do not realize they are already pregnant will use the drug, unwittingly giving themselves an abortion.

"The difference between preventing life and destroying life is hugely significant to many women," said Jeanne Monahan, director of the Family Research Council's Center for Human Dignity. "Women deserve to know that difference."

They also fear some women will try to use ella to abort a fetus, putting themselves at risk for potentially life-threatening complications that have been reported among a small number of women using RU-486, and possibly damage their developing child if it doesn't work.

Proponents dismiss those concerns, saying that ella has been tested only within five days of unprotected sex and there is no evidence that it works as anything other than a contraceptive. Ella appears to be about twice as effective as Plan B in preventing pregnanprecy, and its effectiveness remains constant for at least 120 hours. Plan B begins to lose its effectiveness almost immediately and becomes ineffective after 72 hours.

Lydia's Birth Story

I didn't blog much during my pregnancy with Lydia because we found a midwife willing to help us with a HBAC, which are illegal here. She encouraged us to continue seeing the doctor because of the complications I encountered with my first pregnancy. We actually found her through a brochure at the doctor's office. We called about getting a doula to attend our birth. It turned out that she was a midwife in training and could tell we were passionate about home-birthing. She referred us back to the midwife that is training her. Everything went great up until week 35 when we found out Lydia had turned to the breech position. Our midwife called in an associate to help try with an inversion. They were successful, but she turned back before my doctor's appointment the next day. The doctor then started talking C-section. I was determined to have my baby at home and very confident that she would turn back into position. I didn't pay much attention to the doctor because they were planning a family vacation very close to my due date and I was sure that I would be at home during the birth. Since the baby was still breech at 36 weeks, we started seeing a chiropractor who uses the Webster Technique and my midwife also had me begin taking pulsatilla. Lydia would be in position one day and turn back breech the next. I just kept praying that everything would go as planned. The midwife turned the baby at least four more times before our last appointment on March 10th. Lydia was in the breech position again. We decided it would be best to give her time to turn on her own. It was obvious that she was still able to go where she wanted.

My labor started around 5:30 a.m. March 15th. We called the midwife and she arrived around 7:00. I had started feeling some pretty good contractions by then. She checked me and I was around 3 centimeters dilated and Lydia was in the breech position. She called her associate and our doula/midwife in training so we could turn the baby and get her here. Unfortunately, they were unable to turn her. Lydia's knee was hung on my hip. I was checked again and at 5 centimeters by 9:00. She told me I would be going to the hospital and I totally broke down. She isn't trained in breech births, so it wasn't possible for her to deliver. Our doula accompanied us to the hospital. The contractions were coming fast and hard by the time we got there. The nurse wasn't sure if I would get to stay awake for the birth. She informed us that if I was put under general anesthetic Chris wouldn't be allowed in the delivery room. Our doula stepped in immediately and told me I could refuse to be put under. The nurse wasn't very fond of her, to say the least. My doctor was still in town and by the time they arrived I was totally prepped and in the operating room. Everyone began getting excited and the doctor yelled out the door that anyone that was suppose to be there better get in the room now. I was fully dilated and effaced, and the baby's feet were an inch from exiting. Praise God I wasn't put under and Chris got to be in the room. It was wonderful getting to see my baby before everyone else. They told me later I would've had the baby without the doctor had she been in the right position. (That would have been wonderful!) Our sweet baby girl Lydia Ann was delivered at 10:46 am. She weighed in at 8lbs. 1oz. and was 19 1/2 inches.

Sorry it's been so long. We've had a lot going on the past few months.

My mother-in-law passed away on March 4th after a battle with cancer. She was a very special woman and we miss her dearly.

Lydia Ann was born on March 15th. We have been very busy now that we have two little ones in the house. Chris was able to save his vacation days and be home with us for seven weeks. It was wonderful to have so much time together as a family. He returned to work this morning, so we're all trying to adjust to our new schedules. I'll be sharing Lydia's birth story soon.

We are 37 weeks along and Lydia is now in the breech position. I have been seeing a chiropractor for the last few weeks, had midwifes try an inversion, and have been taking pulsatilla per the midwives advice. The good news is that she still has plenty of room to move around. She spins 360 degrees almost daily. She stayed in position for a few hours after the inversion, but then went right back to being breech.l

34 week update

We are 34 weeks pregnant today. Everything is going great with this pregnancy. Lydia is head down, and I'm doing my pelvic tilts to make sure she stays that way. =) My blood pressure has been perfect thanks to the Brewer diet.

We found a wonderful doula/midwife apprentice who has given me great advice. She has suggested that I take fish oil daily to ward off the baby blues, take vitamin C so my water won't break prematurely, drink raspberry tea to strengthen uterine muscles, and to sit straight or lay on my side these last few weeks so the baby will not be posterior. I'm really looking forward to having a birth experience that I can be proud of. It's so nice to someone on your side who is all about having a natural birth. She is a VBAC advocate and even helped start a local ICAN support group. (If you have had a cesarean section the site and group are really worth checking out.)

Lydia Jane is due on March 19th. =) The ultrasound showed her to be very healthy and weighing in at 10 oz. It also showed her to be due on March 21, much closer to my date of March 19 than the doctors pregnancy wheel date of March 14. Why is it that doctors refuse to listen anyway?

Abe got his first tooth on June 17th followed by his second on June 26th.

He went swimming for the first time on June 18th. He didn't know what to think about the pool his first time in, but he has learned to love it. They have since recalled his floaty.

Abraham is getting bigger and learning something new everyday. He is sitting on his own, holding his cup, and just yesterday held his spoon. He is just two pounds away from outgrowing his car seat. Soon I'll have to pack up the Bumbo, bouncy seat, and the swing. It makes me sad that he is growing so fast. But I love that we get to enjoy all things new together and for this brief moment in time he is mommy's boy. =) I know all to soon he will be off and running being daddy's little buddy. =)

6 month check-up

Abraham is now 6 months old! Where did the time go? I love watching him grow, but feel like it's going by way to fast. I'm so blessed to be a stay-at-home-mom. I can't imagine how fast time would fly if I were away from my little guy all day. He is doing great. He is up to 17lbs. 60z. and is 26 inches long. As you can see he is such a happy baby.

First Trips

We recently took Abraham on his first trip to the Library and the Zoo. Honestly, I think Chris and I had more fun than he did. =) Abe loves it when we read to him, so we decided that we would check out what the library had to offer. They have a really good selection of board books. We have been having so much fun with Quiet LOUD by Leslie Patricelli. We're defiantly going to have to add it to Abe's home library.

The next day we headed out for an afternoon at the zoo. Abe was sleeping when we arrived, but had a good time once he got his nap in. He just loves being outside. I'm so glad the weather is warming up so we can spend more time outdoors. We've even been discussing taking him on a camping trip. I really think he would enjoy it.

Abraham started showing signs he was ready for solid foods last month. We decided to forgo the jarred food and make it at home. His favorite so far has been banana, and his least favorite has been peas. He is eating 2-3 tablespoons of food at a time three times a day. He's becoming such a big boy. =)

The past couple of weeks have been exciting around here. Our little guy has started rolling, scooting, and teething. He also had his first cold. =( He's loving being big stuff in his exersaucer and his Johnny Jump Up. He isn't showing any interest in sitting however. He really doesn't like to bend at the waist, and would much rather stand. We have a Bumbo, but any time we try to sit him in it he stiffens up and wants out immediately. We've also been able to get outside and enjoy the warm weather. Abraham loves taking in the scenery. It's so fun to watch as his personality develops. He is a very happy baby, until something doesn't go his way. =) I so love being a Mommy!

Cloth Diapering

Abraham finally grew into his cloth diapers in early February. It's been so much easier than I had anticipated. There were so many people that didn't think I could stick with it that I started to doubt myself, but it really is easy as long as you have time for a few extra loads of laundry a week. He developed a few rashes in the disposables. The worst of which took a prescription to clear up, but we haven't had any problems since the switch. I've also noticed that there isn't a constant urine smell with the cloth. So far I'm really happy with the bummis covers. I hope it continues to go smoothly as we transition into solid foods and crawling. =)

4-Month Checkup

Abe went this morning for his four-month checkup. He is getting so big. He weighs 13 lbs. 8ozs. and is 23 1/2 inches long. The doctor was really surprised that he is gaining weight so well on breast milk. He said everything is great developmentally. He also said he could tell that Abe doesn't attend daycare because he is so attentive, knows exactly who mommy is, and hasn't been sick yet. It's nice to a pediatrician who isn't all about sticking your child in daycare.

Sleeping

Our little guy is finally starting to spend time in his crib. I started laying him down for naps in it last week. He has only gone to sleep on his own once, but I've been getting him to sleep and laying him down. He does pretty good in the daytime, he naps for about thirty minutes at a time twice a day. He usually falls asleep in his swing or bouncy for a good hour nap mid morning. At night he fights going to sleep. I can't get him to sleep before 11:00pm. Sometimes he fights until 1:00am to stay awake. If he does dose off he makes sure he's awake enough I can't put him down. When I can get him into the crib it doesn't usually last long enough for me to even get to sleep. I guess he moves and realizes he's not being held. Hopefully he will get used to sleeping for longer periods soon. =)

Sickness

Abraham had his first fever this weekend. Thankfully it was only low grade. Poor little guy was clingy and really sleepy Friday night and was running a temperature by Saturday afternoon. I think Chris caught a bug at work and passed it on. He was feeling pretty yucky this weekend as well. They are both feeling much better today. Chris was able to work and Abe is back to laughing and playing.

Abraham went for his 2 month checkup this morning. He weighs 9lbs. 2oz. and is 21 1/4" long. He beat his weight goal by 6oz. =) The doctor said everything is looking good so we don't have to go back until March.

8 Weeks Old

Abe is eight weeks old today. I can barely remember life without him. We're finally starting to get on a schedule. He is sleeping 3-4 hours at a time at night now, taking a morning and afternoon nap, and eating every 2 1/2 hours. He slept in his playpen this weekend while we visited my parents again, but it was back to sleeping with Mommy last night. He slept most of the way home, so he never fell into a deep sleep. I'm hoping I can get him to sleep in his crib tonight. He has been taking his naps in his swing, so I have been able to get back to some of my household chores.

Abraham update

Abraham went in for a weight check and is up to 7lbs. 12oz. He isn't quite where the doctor was hoping he would be, but I'm not worried about it. He is eating well and has outgrown his preemie clothes. He has started cooing and rolled from his tummy to his back. He still won't sleep anywhere but in my arms at night. I can get him to nap for twenty minutes in his bassinet, but he doesn't want anything to do with his crib. The doctor suggested letting him "cry it out", but I just can't do it. To be honest, I haven't even tried. I just know it would break my heart to listen to him.

I know it's been awhile since I updated. We had a bit of a rough go of it the first few weeks. It started Tuesday (Nov 25) with my water breaking and followed with a long hard labor that ended with an emergency c-section due to Abraham's heart rate. I've had a really hard time accepting that things couldn't go the way I had planned. Abe had some problems, so we didn't get him right away. Chris got to see him briefly, but I was totally under when he was born. It was love at first sight when they finally brought him in. I didn't think I could love him more than I had through the pregnancy, but I do. They sent us home on Thursday (Nov 27). My feet were so swollen I couldn't feel them. They assured me that this was normal and would go away on it's own. It turns out I had preeclampsia and was never informed. I had to see a different doctor a week later to find this out. I was put on blood pressure medication to reduce the swelling. The doctor told me that the script was perfectly safe for me to take while breastfeeding. After talking with two different pharmacists we decided it wasn't. So I ended up having to put Abe on formula for a week. It broke my heart, but I wasn't going to risk his health. My blood pressure regulated and the swelling subsided in a week. The doctor suggested that I continue the medication, but we decided to discontinue it. I have been keeping up with my blood pressure here at home and it's fine. I also developed the baby blues when I got home. It was awful. I don't know what I would have done without Chris, my mom, and our family. I feel so bad for putting Chris through so much, he was so supportive through it all. He is a wonderful husband and father. I am a very blessed woman.

6 Weeks Old

It's hard to believe our little man is already 6 weeks old. It is such a blessing to have him in our lives. It's even better than I could ever have imagined. He is gaining weight fast. Last doctors appointment he was 7lbs. 1oz. He's almost big enough for his cloth diapers. He's focusing on his mobile and loves to look at shadows. His favorite part of the day is bath time. He's also loving his swing that Grandpa and Grandma gave him.

Abraham Nathaniel arrived Tuesday November 25 at 10:32 pm. He weighed in at 5lbs. 11 oz. and was 19 3/4" long. He is so handsome! He looks just like his daddy. We are all doing great. I hope to update more soon.

Monday Update

We went to the doctor's office this morning, but had to see a fill-in. My blood pressure was running pretty high and my protein is up. The nurse told me I would be heading to the hospital to have a baby today. She hooked me up to a monitor to check on Abe. When the doctor came in she told me the monitor looked pretty flat, but she'd give it another ten minutes. When she returned she said it didn't look great, but she would go ahead and schedule my induction for Wednesday or Friday. We saw this same fill-in on the 10th while the baby was still transverse and she told us the baby had no chance whatsoever to turn. She was ready to schedule a c-section two weeks ago. Needless to say, we're very glad she's not our regular doctor. She got me in Wednesday morning at 8:00, but the nurse called not long after we'd left and told me she had talked to my doctor and she wants me at the hospital tomorrow night at 10:00. So if the baby isn't here by then it looks like we will have Abraham on Wednesday. =) Please continue to pray for us. We're still hoping things will happen naturally. I really don't want to be induced.

Doctor Day

We got a pleasant surprise at the doctor today. Abraham turned into position. =) He was moving like crazy in the wee hours this morning and I think that's when he turned. The doctor couldn't believe it. She did two ultrasounds just to make sure. She was thinking that his fluid was down and we might have to go ahead with a c-section, so we had to go and get a better scan of him. Turns out the fluid is fine, he's just outgrowing his home. We go back to the doctor on Monday to see how things are coming along unless he decides to make his entrance before then. Thank you all for your prayers and suggestions.

39 weeks

We were 39 weeks as of Sunday. Abraham is still transverse. He has until Thursday to make his big turn. I've been given a lot of advice, and tried it all. I really think he is trying, he just doesn't have much room. Right now he has his head and his bum in my ribs.

I've been keeping myself busy cleaning and such. You have to keep the house clean when your parents are coming. =) I know it may sound a bit too early, but I've gotten our Christmas tree up and decorated. I wasn't sure it'd get finished if I waited. I need to get to the post office and mail my niece's birthday gift. She turns eight on Sunday. I can't believe how fast she's growing up. It seems like she was born just yesterday.

I came across this story today. I have to say it's pure stupidity. Why should you believe in God?

It bothers me knowing that many children will see this ad and have it stick with them. The whole point of Christmas is to celebrate the birth of our Saviour not to "be good" and get all the things on some stupid list. I'm so tired of the gimme mentality the world seems to possess.

The people responsible for these these ads hate God and think everyone else should too. They certaintly don't have a problem promoting their religion.

Ultrasound Day

We finally got our ultrasound today. The only picture we could get was of Abe's arm. =)~ He didn't want to cooperate and turn to face us. We found out he has gone from being very close to being in position to being almost breech. He's laying diagonally with his head to the left. The doctor said there is still a chance he can make the turn to be in position, but it's not likely. Otherwise things with him look great. I'm so happy and feel so blessed to be having a healthy baby. I really would rather not have to go the C-section route though. I'd appreciate your prayers concerning him getting into position and coming into the world naturally. I go back on Monday and we're hoping he will have gotten back around by then. He has been a mover from the start so we just need him to keep it up. =)

We went to the doctor for our 36 week check up yesterday and everything is looking great. We were supposed to get an ultrasound, but one of the machines was down. So we will get some new pictures of our little man next week. =) The doctor said she thinks Abraham is weighing in somewhere between 7 1/2 and 8 lbs. That's a bit scary for me. I was thinking more like 6 lbs. She also said I'm measuring about a week ahead now. We're getting really close!

I thought I would show you some gifts that Abraham received recently. Jaime made him a beautiful blanket. I just love the color blue that she picked and it's so soft. Zsuzsanna made him an adorable bath towel. The little ducks are so cute!! I can't wait to wrap Abe up in them.

Stocking up

I've been cooking and freezing meals for when the baby comes this past week. So far I have fifteen pounds of hamburger fried and bagged in 1/2 cup portions, two pounds of meatballs, twenty five bean burritos, ten cheese enchiladas, ten BBQ cups, twenty taco cups, a chicken pot pie, and six pork roasts. I need to get some more chicken so I can make some things up with it. We stocked up on things like bread, beans, tortillas, veggies, spaghetti, sauces, rice, and spices. I plan on using the hamburger for tacos, soup, chili, goulash, and hamburger helper. Any suggestions on things I might have missed are welcome. I'd really like to be able to just stay at home with Abraham for his first couple of weeks.

Our 3rd Anniversary

Chris took last week off as we celebrated our 3rd anniversary on the 15th. We also finished a few projects we've been meaning to work on. We still have a couple of things that need done before the baby arrives, but it's looking better. We managed to purge three car loads of junk into the neighborhood dumpster. It feels so great to have that much gone. It's crazy how much stuff can accumulate in such a short amount of time. It was really nice having my husband home for 10 straight days. It sure didn't feel that long though, more like a long weekend. We only have five weeks until our due date. I'm excited and scared at the same time. I'm so looking forward to meeting our little man. =) I spend most of my evenings watching him move around. He seems to be running out of room fast.

I've had a pretty productive week. I managed to get all the 0-3 month clothing washed and ready, along with all the receiving blankets and extra bedding. I had quite a few loads thanks to my sister. It really is a blessing that she gave us so much. =) I even have a tub full of girl clothes to store. I also made up a list of meals that I want to get made up and frozen for after Abraham is born.

We have a pretty busy day ahead of us. We have a doctors appointment this morning, and a shower at Chris' work this afternoon. This evening my Father-in-law is going to help get all the furniture moved into our new living room.

It's really is a beautiful day outside today. It's a sunny seventy degrees right now. I started out the day just wanting to crawl back into bed, but now I've got my windows open enjoying the breeze and the sunshine. I love being able to just enjoy the simple things that God has given us. I think the only way the day could be nicer is if someone decides to mow their lawn, I just love the smell of freshly mowed grass. I hope everyone else is enjoying their day.
